Morning all from a reasonably bright Bedfordshire. No more snow just icy. Lots of grey clouds though so we will see what happens. Had a very light dusting last evening but again nothing to write home about lol. Looking out of the upstais window it looks like the Roads are clear but the pavements look a bit crispy. Jealous ?????? LOL

Well, at least you won't have to trudge to school and risk falling. I'll have to venture out to the dustbin, and the garage where the bigger freezer is. Rather than freeze the sausage rolls last night, I put them out in the snow - lol

The local news says that there are a large number of lorries stranded on the M25 close to the Dartford Tolls, with 80 over night in Surrey/Sussex. Gatwick Airport won't be open until tomorrow morning. Sheesh - thats a busy airport and not normally closed for that long.

I can't decide if it's snowing again, or blowing off the trees - lol

Morning LG - wondered where you were!

Oh I am lurking about DET LOL. Busy today getting stuff done for the big fundraiser at Brownies tonight. Off out to the shop in a little while to buy last minute bits and then to the baking of numerous cakes etc. Just trying to write a list so that I don't forget anything as I do not intend having to go out again until a lot later on. To use an old London sayong it's Brass Monkey's out there LOL

YG Report 1 Dec 2010 10:31

Well we have now got about nine to ten inches of snow, but it has stopped temporarily. The whole of South Yorkshire is at a standstill. No buses at all throughout Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster, chaos on the motorways and lots of abandoned cars. The local airport has suspended all flights and all the schools are closed. No bread, milk etc as deliveries can't get through.

I received a text telling me not to go in so I haven't and wouldn't have attempted it anyway. A colleague's husband drove her in to pick up her lap top and it was a nightmare. The road to our office was blocked with a jackknifed lorry.

Local news is asking for people and dealerships with 4 x 4s to go out and help stranded people and anyone that needs prescriptions etc. I have never heard the likes of that before!

Have had to venture out by foot to the local shops as I was desperate for a couple of things. Not a pleasant walk and proves I am getting old and out of condition as I am now totally out of breath and recovering on the settee!!

It's snowing heavy again here, don't think there's any chance of it stopping soon.

I've just been out to the garage to get something out of the freezer and accidentally walked on part of the path that hasn't been cleared since the snow started .............thought I'd fell in a hole!! Got soaked and had to change my trackie bottoms.

YG Report 1 Dec 2010 11:50

Just been out to attempt to clear the car. Done the side facing the pavement and given up. Across the road they are having to shovel their way out of where they are parked.

You're right, Pauline, it is like disappearing down a black hole!! Went to the shed for something to attempt clearing the path from the back door!! Almost up to my knees and not good in ankle boots!!

Omg, heard this morning that our office is due a visit from the PM next week. G** help us, all leave cancelled and all the bosses will be flapping!!

Mazfromnorf Report 1 Dec 2010 12:38

You poor souls - you really are having it bad. I went out with a ruler earlier and it is between 8-10in avoiding drifts. The Main Rd looks as if it has been ploughed and gritted, but with so little traffic, it will probably freeze again quite quickly.

Spoke to PC on the phone. She took 2 hours yesterday to do a 20 min journey and had to abandon her car in a residential urban area. She is supposed to be working tomorrow, but I've suggested she stays put as she is closer to work from there than from here.

edit 1330 - daft PC decided to come home 'to look a the snow' and has now got stuck in our side road. Elderly neighbour, OH and B/F are having to dig her out. Tut.

Oh dear, looks like the whole country will soon be as bad as us.

Children never listen do they? Hope she manages to get away DET.

I just wish it would stop for a while

It's been coming down non-stop since I tried to clear a bit of the path.

Maz, I've got a shovel at the back door as well - so I can dig my way to the garage when I want something out of the freezer.

I keep clearing a bit of path so I can feed the birds, but when I put something out for them they nearly kill each other to get it.

My bm is in Epsom and says his car is buried in the car park at work. He will have such fun tonight trying to find it lol!!
He is hoping to drive back here tomorrow. Better him than me!!

They have just announced that any drivers who do not clear snow from the car roof will be fined £60 if they are caught. Not before time. It is so dangerous driving like that. I watched some this morning and they had only cleared the front windscreen and driver's side window. Idiots!! That's what I think!!

YG

YG Report 1 Dec 2010 19:59

Is everyone buried under the snow???

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 1 Dec 2010 21:20

I'm not . No snow here at all.

YG Report 1 Dec 2010 22:00

Boo hoo!! It's not fair!!

Although I have got another day at home tomorrow, as instructed by my boss!! Think she has some work for me to do at home and is phoning me at 9.20, so need to get the brain functioning before then lol!!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 1 Dec 2010 22:48

Evening - fell asleep in the chair - lol

Hope your BM managed to get his car out and home YG. At least you can pace yourself and cuddle the kitties working from home. Haven't you bought any wet/snow weather boots yet then?

So far we've missed the 'heavy snow' predicted for this evening, thank goodness. We dug one of the cars out so we can go shopping tomorrow. PC went back with the bf and we'll let her know how things go. At least the urban buses were running today so she could get into work from there in the morning. None seen here!!!!

I do hope it stops soon for Pauline - It must have been snowing for about a week now. If you are anything like me LG, you want the snow, then when it comes, wish it would go away again!!!!!

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 1 Dec 2010 23:06

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 1 Dec 2010 23:12

No babysitting anymore as she has finished her trainings . I have got all day to myself except for OH coming in at lunchtime. Just waiting to see what the weather is like to decide whether to go and do a bit of the dreaded shopping.
