Pauline $(*-*)$ Report 29 Nov 2010 11:29

All our schools are closed and the Day Centre is closed until further notice. I've just been outside watching the bin-men trying to get the wagon into the street. They couldn't make it but I'm surprised they even tried.

I had to dig the snow away from the gate so I could get out, couldn't get the bin out though. One of the nice men came to help but couldn't manage it either so he just took the bag out and carried it back to the wagon.

He told me it was bedlam at the shopping centre because all the buses were stuck and it had brought the place to a standstill.

What kind bin men! Perhaps with Christmas coming they are hoping for a Tip????

My friend in Cornwall says her school is closed. She had decided that it was too dangerous to drive on un gritted hilly rural roads to get there . As the school has a semi urban waking distance catchment area, I expect other staff members thought the same as she.

Off out to the shopping Mall for the last of the pressie...hurray!

YG Report 29 Nov 2010 18:43

Evening all. Hope you are all ok.

We had more snow overnight and early this morning, but the sun came out and at least melted it from the trees, although the pavements are horrendous.

It is such a pity that the council don't grit side streets because there are lots of elderly that are at risk of falling.(me included, ha-ha!!)

Evening all - glad you made into work and back again YG. I bet Pauline wishes she was able just to go out!

Well done to Maz school for keeping the flag flying. If the children were in walking distance, it beggers belief why they didn't attend. I used to be a horrible mother and hang over the radio to listen to the school closure list; if it was open...they went - lol

Have you managed to unstick yourself LG? lol

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 30 Nov 2010 09:22

Morning- make the most of your time off. They must have decided it wasn't worth sending out the provisions lorry for just one school.

How is Pauline? Still more to come in your area by the looks of it. We've had about 11/2 inches over night and its still snowing. Whats the betting half the kids don't turn up for 'my' school despite it being open? At least I don't have to hang over the radio anymore - lol

Pauline will be cheesed off i think it is moving south i believe now the sun is shining and it looks lovely outside .the problem is that when the schools are off the older kids cause havoc with distruction Andrew has replaced a wing mirror and the snowballs have ice in are being thrown at buses and cars and house windows
the bin men have not made it today

There - you may have some yet LG!

Wretched kids - what happened to snowball fights in the park, or tray/bin bag sack sledges?? The only trouble we've ever had was when next door's son got his snowball 'body' for a man stuck at the end of our drive. OH had to help him move it before we could get the car out - lol

Are they goodie bags LG??

My cousin lives across the road to me but he's in Bangkok at the moment. They must have heard about the weather over here because he's rang and asked me to go over and turn the boiler up and put the radiators on.

Anybody got any fishing waders I can borrow?

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 30 Nov 2010 10:28

Seem to recall someone here has a fisherman in the family Pauline! Hope your cousin isn't due back soon; he might ended up stranded at the airport...if it is open.
