Florence - hope the eye settles quickly.

Linda - at a pre op I was just given the narrow tube to use. Impossible to use normally but as I had gone when I arrived it was a joke trying to catch anything at all. Luckily there were some of this little water cones left and I manage to dribble into that.

Hi t,o you all.
Florence so sorry to hear about your eye problem, must be annoying,I hope things clear up soon .

Glorious sunshine once again for us here but it is still really cold so no going outside yet, I can see from the window that the Daffies are coming up, & lot's of Snowdrops are putting on a lovely show.
Just wish I could get out & trim back the various shrubs that never got done back in Oct / Nov due to the many rainy days we had back then.

Spending most of my time doing household tasks, boring but neccessary.

Joan.

Florence hope your eye heals soon, it must be uncomfortable if it feels gritty.

Brr, it is really chilly today. This afternoon, we called in on the girls for a little play before we went to the supermarket. I have to go to the dentist tomorrow morning, so I wanted to get the shopping out of the way.
The dental appointment is to have impressions taken for the permanent bridge to go on my implants. I am a bit worried because my gums are very inflamed over the temporary bridge despite my best efforts. I hope it hasn’t all gone wrong :-(

I hope your eye has settled down Florence

Good luck with the dentist Linda hope all goes well

We've just had the first snow of the winter ............... sudden drop in temperature last week, but sunny. Now it hasn't got above 0C today, and we had (EDIT) 10-15 cm of snow in about 5 hours here at the residence! It's going to get chillier for at least a good part of the week as we have an Arctic Outflow stalling over us!

Florence .............. I have never driven, but it was a very rainy day when I had my first (and then later the second!) cataract done, so the street lights were on, and the cars had high beams, which were extremely bright to the "new" eye! It was extremely unpleasant being driven home with those lights, because no-one had warned me about the need for sunglasses even if it was raining.

Have you tried looking at the difference in colour of a sheet of white paper, or white linen, between the operated eye and your other eye??

It might take a few days for your eye to settle down, and for it to be comfortable to read, but maybe keep off your phone for a bit. You might also want to phone the nurse if that "bit stuck" feeling persists, just to be cure.

Linda ............ hope the visit to the dentist goes well tomorrow. It's a long job you're having done!!

The dentist did go well, thank you Sylvia. He took the temporary bridge off and did impressions for the permanent one. They use a hand held 3D scanner instead of using the pink stuff you used to bite into. The dental implants are looking really good thank goodness. The temporary bridge has gone back on for two weeks, when it will come off and the permanent teeth will go on. I had been worried because the gum was a bit red, but it turns out that is because I should be poking an interdental bush over the top of the bridge. He showed me how to do it, so I bought some .

I hope that you are OK Florence.

Afternoon all

Its a horrid day with storm winds, cancelled ferries and causeways so pretty dire today.

I am feeling a bit better and can now see through my glasses to read text on my phone and my books so that is good progress. Its just an achy feeling at the corner and this feeling of something under the eyelid but its not been a week yet!!!

It will take time to heal so moving in the right direction but i need to be patient!.

Linda, hope all goes well today at the dentist appointment and hope your infection has cleared up too.

Joan glad your spring flowers are growing nicely even if its too cold to get outside, you have something lovely to look at.

My spring bulbs are now several inches above ground so I cant wait until they blossom in the Spring.

Hope everyone else looking in is keeping well and warm as the temp has def dropped and snow I see has been forecast for some areas!!

I'm home alone til Wednesday so gently pottering around attending to usual chores.

ArgyllGran Report 3 Feb 2025 16:46

Snowdrops and two purple crocuses in bloom - and - I can hardly believe it - two daffodils.
The daffs had been blown flat by today's wind, so I've picked them and brought them indoors.

Bucketing rain all day - not nice at all.

Florence and Linda - I hope your eye and teeth continue to progress well!
Keep using the drops, Florence.

Afternoon all
Pouring hard today but less windy!

I had a yellow crocus out last week which i thought was early but daffodils??? Its very early for them isnt it? What a shame the wind bashed them ArgyllGran but at least you got them indoors.

Im decluttering.....again! We seem to gather paper in this house and magazines for some reason. Lots of shredding to do but waiting on a new shredder as daughter wore out the blades on the current one shredding a load for a friend in need!

Anyway plenty of chores today to keep me busy and a friend sent me a lovely bunch of flowers today which was a wonderful surprise. I had another bespoke bouquet last week from a special friend which was also a fab surprise. So i have been very spoilt.

Hope everyone looking in today is keeping well and cosy as it looks chilly outdoors but not going outside just yet!

Had my new desk top PC installed yesterday so now getting used to not only a new PC but Windows 11 as well. Luckily, although the hard drive was dead on the old PC, my fellow who does all my PC work was able to retrieve most of my files. He has a 'tool' to do this. apparently he has to have a licence to do it. Shows it can be done though so be careful what happens to old hard drives when you no longer need them, your info can be retrieved. :-(

I am glad that you are up and running again Ann. OH always takes a hammer to our old hard drives
It is sunny here, it chilly and going to get colder at the weekend.
I have just been working out the recipes for the rest of the week, so am going to grace Aldi with my presence.
I hope that your eye is better Florence, if it still feels gritty, it could be infected, so maybe you should get it checked out

Hello all,

Well I am back on board now I have paid my subs. I forgot the renewal date was in January and when I went to post I couldn't and took me a while to realise why. lol.
I also had a new laptop at Christmas and was getting used to that. I am not tech savvy at all. Still getting used to windows 11 .
I have been reading the boards at times so i have kept up to date with you all.

Just had a phone call from 'BT' telling me my internet was unsafe etc. The woman went on to say I needed to connect to the internet and do some checks that she would talk me through. OK I said but how do I connect to BT internet?, she said just switch on my computer and she will guide me. How do I do connect with BT though when I am not with BT? I asked her. She put the phone down on me. How rude is that?
:-D :-D :-D ;-) ;-)

Morning all
JustGinnie this is a scam!! If they ring again, please ignore it as this has been doing the rounds for sometime. BT wouldnt ring a customer to say their internet was unsafe at all!
So be aware if they ring again.

Glad you are back on the boards again all subbed up.

My eye i have discovered is aching because of the sunlight! So Im wearing my sunglasses. The gritty feeling is better so its just the glare of bright lights that hurts and that will heal in time.

I have W11 and my friends sil tr all my things from old PC to new one in about 20 minutes so I never lost anything. Im finiding it ok now maybe just the menu was a bit different but apart from that it seems just the same.

I had office 365 already on the old PC and did many years ago Ann have Libre office but deleted that and also another one was open office but that didnt have all the things I used, so was very basic.

Its not a bad day but a nippy easterly wind when i ventured out to the bins for 5 mins.

Hope everyone else looking in is having a good day.

Thank You Florence, I realised it was a scam as soon as the woman spoke plus it was on my landline ( I am not even with BT) which I only seem to get these scams on and also the Amazon Prime ones.
So many of these scam things about we have to be careful.

Glad your eye feels better.

to be honest Florence Libra office doen't seem any different to Mocrosoft and my M office was really old so would have to have bought a new one at over £100 . Yes most things were transferred from the old to new and even with all the things on office, most have transferred with Dom's help. If he had not had the tool to do it though they would have been lost. I even have all the photos that were on Picasa on my old PC but that is something to sort out as I can't get Picasa any more as it is not available. As my photography is important to me that is the next thing to sort.

Just read there was an earthquake near Oban so wonder if Argyllgran felt it?

Anyone else in that area?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 5 Feb 2025 19:33

Oh! No, I didn't feel a thing!

I've just looked it up, and I see it was at 3.05am today, at a depth of 10km, but of "unknown" magnitude.
It can't have been very strong.

It's apparently been reported as "felt", but hasn't been confirmed officially.
Online reports from residents in the general area who did feel it number only five. Two "weak" in the immediate Oban area; and three "very weak" from people further away - two of those on Mull, and one in Fort William.

LATER:
Approx 60 reports now - mostly of only slight shaking.
