Good morning all. I hope the weather is a bit calmer where you are. It is 7 degrees here at 0820 but very dark and raining hard. bin day today hoping they don't blow over. The recycling bins are very light.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 28 Jan 2025 09:25

Good morning Ann,it is grey and drizzly here, but I haven’t ventured out yet.

We arrived back from our jaunt to Birmingham late yesterday afternoon. The house was so cold because the heating had been off for a couple of days.

We had a very nice time , meeting up with our son, he came by train, so we stayed in the Premier Inn at the station, a very convenient location. We also parked in a car park which opened straight into the station complex, so that couldn’t have been better. I hate driving in the very centre of large cities, but luckily the traffic was crawling along, so we had plenty of time to react to the SatNav and we found the car park without getting into any wrong lanes.

We did lots of sight seeing, so my hip was aching with all the walking. We also ate a huge amount of naughty food, so I dread to think how much weight I have put on.

ArgyllGran Report 28 Jan 2025 10:41

Perhaps all the walking will have used up the calories, Linda!

Calm and sunny here, yesterday and today. Almost like spring!
I should take the opportunity to do something in the garden.
So far, all I've done is to pop along to the mobile bank, which visits the village hall carpark for 15 minutes per week.

Florence

In case no-one has ever mentioned this to you ................. take a pair of sunglasses with you to wear on the way home after the cataract surgery.

I found oncoming headlights from cars and trucks were quite uncomfortable.

Don't be surprised at the brightness of any white linens!

I hope your surgery goes well Florence, it should make such a big difference.

It is my sons birthday today, that is why we met up with him at the weekend

Good to see you Sylvia, I hope things are going well for you

JustGinnie messaged me to let you all know her subs had expired but she reads all the posts daily and hopes to be back on here soon.

Thank you Linda, glad that day has passed I still always feel so sad. Both for him and for me.
Now I have a poorly desk top PC so am on my IPad. It is being looked at tomorrow when it will either be fixed or condemned. As it is about 10 years old it will ptobably be the latter,

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 30 Jan 2025 11:01

I am glad that the op went well Florence. My mum had both of hers done and it made a huge difference
I am pleased that you managed to get through yesterday Ann, it must be so difficult for you ??
I hope you manage to get everything transferred over if you get a new pc. I have a laptop which I now only use for the family history program and the odd bit of banking which can’t be done on my iPad. Everything else is done on my iPad, which I find to be much easier. If I could get my Legacy program on my iPad, I would never use the laptop, but it isn’t compatible

My sister who spent two days with us last week has just rung to say that both she and her husband have COVID. It is the first time they have ever had it. I feel chesty and have a headache, so I have done a test, but it is negative. I hope it stays that way

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 31 Jan 2025 07:41

Pleased all went smoothly for you Florence.Today I shall know if I need to buy new PC. That is not a problem. It is the learning everything new I don’t look forward to. I was just about to switch over to W11 and a new one will automatically have that will have to really exercise my brain if my existing Pc is really dead.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 31 Jan 2025 09:06

You would have had to swap to W11 in any case as you say Ann. I always change as soon as a new version comes out, so I have been using it for a long time now. I can’t remember having any problems. Last time I got a new laptop, I paid someone to set it up and to copy the old hard drive over to the new one, so that I didn’t lose anything

I haven’t been very well for a few days with an UTI , the scourge of old ladies. Yesterday morning I felt like a zombie because I had woken every hour through the night to go to the loo :-( It is one of the ailments you can go to see a pharmacist for, but only up to the age of 65, after that, you have to go to the doctor. Rather than ring up, I decided to drive there as I knew that they would want a sample and I didn’t have a tube. The receptionist gave me one and said that if I could give a sample there, she would give it straight to the nurse and they would ring me with the results. My previous surgery used to give you a cardboard thing to collect it in which was really easy to use. Yesterday, she gave me a small plastic beaker, the type they use in the water dispenser :-S That was very difficult and I mainly missed :-(, but I collected enough for them to test. About lunchtime, they rang me to say that the doctor had sent a prescription for some antibiotics to my chemist. I thought that was very good service. I slept much better last night , so hopefully that is sorted. I just have to hope that I don’t get Covid now.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 31 Jan 2025 15:11

Ah, you said you didn’t feel right the last time you were on here Linda hopefully the antibiotics will do the trick. Hope you feel better soon.

Unfortunately mt had drive is ‘dead’ as well as several other things so is beyond help.
So this is going to be an adventure/ long learning curve. Not to say frustrating.
Computer is done for, hard drive is also done for. Although Dad’s fired up when Dom looked at it, it is too old to replace mine as likely won’t easily take W11 not having been used for over four years.

Soo Dom is sourcing me a new computer, almost as slim line as the one I have. The one he is getting is one he has put in for a lot of people it is a Xenta. No I have not heard of it, apparently it is British from a small British firm. He will also organise new office for me (ours is out of date now) He will order it and Office and hopefully have it next week. He is going to send me the estimate with his work today (about two hours)
And all the rest. I am estimating about 1K. I opted for buying office outright personal me only. He is very reliable and, as he is the one I call when things go wrong, I have to trust he would get a good one.
