Wife. 50. Marr. 12 yrs. Leicestershire (Town NK) ? Joseph Steel Davison. Stepson. 20. Sunderland, Durham 1901 census John Davison. Head. 36. Sunderland, Durham Mary J. Wife. 40. Sunderland, Durham. (not Leicestershire as above) Joseph Steel. 10 Sunderland, Durham. Found marriage Sep. 1900 Sunderland John Davison - Mary Jane Steel 10a945 Dont know if she married before. 	Rob This looks like Joseph Steel's birth registration Births Sep 1891 (>99%) STEEL Joseph Sunderland 10a 629 You could buy that, and that would tell you if he had a father, or if he was illegitimate. If there was a father named, then it would tell you Mary J's maiden name. Much better than guessing! sylvia

Thanks Sylvia this is the correct Joseph & Mary Jane Steel the Fathers name is very helpful I had been unable to find him. I now have the marriage certificate for Mary Jane Steel to John Davison (second husband ?) 17 Sept. 1900 ? Bishopwearmouth, Durham This shows her as age 39. Widow. Father William Henry Smith (deceased) Profession Shoemaker. I believed that with all the above everything would drop into place. Not to be. Unable to find marriage Smith to Steel. Unable to find death of George Steel. Unable to find William Smith family details on census. What am I NOT doing correct again. Will e mail kiss and hug for help. Kind regards Rob.
