Its pretty awful here weatherwise as has been all week. I have rubbish for the recycling bins but its far too windy to venture out as I might get blown over!
Very quiet here as home alone until later so shall potter about doing some housework and theres a basket of shredding with my name on it too lol
Hope everyone else looking in today is keeping warm.

We do have a Tesco express in the centre of Knaresborough, but being small, it doesn’t carry a very large selection of items, so it doesn’t have the prunes.
It is OH ‘s birthday today. He came with me to Esme’s school bakery this morning, mainly because we had a parcel to return at the post office near her school. We came back via the retail park because we need to collect our prescriptions from Boots. He actually said that he wanted to look in a clothes shop and he bought two tops and a pair of trousers. That was a miracle because normally getting him to look for new clothes is impossible. He also bought a new anorak last week, he must be I’ll :-D
We are all going to an Italian restaurant at 6 pm, a bit early but Esme gets tired if we go out much later. After that we will go back to their house for birthday cake complete with candles. I think that Esme has a large “ It’s my birthday” badge which she is going to make him wear in the restaurant

Remembering from a holiday some years ago, there's a Tesco Express at Killinghall, just north of Harrogate - but they may not have as big a range of products as a full-scale Tesco.
It's always so good to catch up with old friends. One of my neighbours moved to Shropshire last year, and I do miss her.

They can keep their cold snap, we had enough last week. This afternoon, I went back to Thirsk to have coffee with my old neighbour. I really miss her, so it was good to catch up. I took the opportunity to to buy some new artificial flowers for my parents ashes grave. The flower shop there sells little bouquets which all come from one stem. I have a spare metal grave vase which goes into the hole on the top of the grave, so I put the new flowers in and swap it over when I go. I bend the stem though the central hole and wedge it so it can’t come out. I found that if I have individual flowers they blow out in the wind. I also went to Tescos as we don’t have one here. OH likes tinned pitted prunes in juice and Tescos is the only place you can buy them. They sell small tins which he uses over two days. He only has them on Saturday and Sunday, so the twelve tins I bought today will keep him going a long time. For whatever reason, Harrogate refused to have a Tesco supermarket, but they have finally given in and one is being constructed at the moment, so in a few months, it will be easier for me to get them

Not much wind here. Very overcast, but supposed to stay dry, so I have risked hanging out some washing. Now keeping a close eye on the weather and keeping my fingers crossed!
Yes, the days are definitely stretching. Thank goodness. Before I retired, I used to look forward to the middle of January, as that was when it was daylight when I came out from work at 5pm, instead of still being dark.
I don't believe the panic-mongering online threats of all that snow. Neither the BBC Weather website, nor Accuweather, are warning of more than possible slight snow or sleet, well into February and beyond.

That was a nuisance Florence, it is always disruptive having to wait for somebody to call. Hope she gets to you today.
I have not seen that forecast, don't look forward to bad weather again, we have had enough.

Afternoon all its blowing a gale as it has been all week and raining so have not ventured outside.
Daughter managed out to the bins but only because she went to town on the bus.
Tuesday afternoon about 4, I rang my nurse to see where she was and she apologised and said her clinic had run over and therefore couldn't come! She said if she finishes on time today, she will try & make it for this afternoon and if not def next Tuesday.
I'm not a happy bunny as it means after wasting Tuesday afternoon just waiting, im now in the same position today. It means I cant start something as don't want to be in the middle of it should she turn up!
But..... i should be grateful she is able to make a home visit as on the mainland, i probably wouldn't get the same level of service being a smaller rural area up here.
So I will find something smaller to do and be patient.
I see on the news another "Beast from the East" is on its way for most of the UK except for our little corner. I so hope it doesn't come again as i think weve all had enough snow already this year so far.
Hope everyone else looking in is ok and keeping warm.
Roll on the spring as I have already noticed a small difference in the days stretching :-D :

It is good news that your leg is going down Florence, I hope that trend continues.
The snow has been melting quickly so most of the garden is clear, there is just some thick ice left on the decking.
OH went to his Old Mans talking Club this morning, I have no idea of the official title. but they have weekly talks on topics of interest .I forgot to ask him to get the car out of the garage before he went and as I wanted to go to Aldi, I had to get it out myself. For the first six months or so when we were here we left the car out because the garage was full of building material . Once everything was done and the winter was approaching, we started to put the car away. It is a double garage but as it is slightly offset to the drive, we have to put the car into the right hand side. That means that the divers door is against the wall and there isn’t much room to get the door open to get in and out. It would be better if we could put the car in the left hand side of the garage, that way the drivers door would open into the middle, so there would be no problem getting out. He tried that once, but was very worried about scraping the car on the main house wall when he backed out, so we use the other side now. The garage doors are also really narrow, so he folds the wing mirrors in as the first time he got the car out, he scratched the wing mirrors on the door edge. I don’t know why he always gets the car out and puts it away, but it suits me fine as that is once less job for me to do. Anyway I managed to back it out without causing any damage. We never had this problem in the last house as we had a massive double garage because the way the house builder had designed the garage, it turned out that they couldn’t get the cars in, so they had to alter things and we ended up with a huge garage with nice wide doors.

Afternoon everyone looking in.
Well it is bright & sunny but the wind is strong and oh soooo cold. I stuck my head out the front door just to see and oh my, i quickly snuck back in. I had some more carboard for the bin but far too cold so it can stay by the back door until its better outside.
Just waiting on the nurse to come and look at my leg for a check up. Amazingly the fluid has gone down so will be interesting to compare the measurements from the first time she came back in October.
Linda, hope you snow melts quickly so you can get back to normal.
Stay safe all and keep warm

It was nice to get out for the day Ann. I was looking in the Tog 24 shop because I had seen a couple of fleeces in the online sale which I liked the look of, but they didn’t have them in the outlet shop. I tried a couple of things on, so I knew the correct size, then ordered them online last night. It was warmer last night, so some of the snow has melted, but our garden is still well covered, especially in the back. Tonight is going to be even warmer, so hopefully it will melt because after that it says we are going back to zero overnight. This evening is the monthly history society talk which I go to with my daughter, so I hope the school grounds are free from snow. We live on the top of an area of land which is a large promontory with steep cliffs on two sides. It is very obvious in the landscape from a long distance away. That is probably why, it is so cold here and it seems to be a windy place. The local junior school was one of the last ones to reopen because the roads and pavements were so dangerous.

Linda good to get out for a good look round the shops and sounds as if you and your OH got a few things. Strange how the snow seems to have been contained in certain areas. Even here, part of Gloucestershire had snow and others didn't (and not just the usual high Cotswolds. We were very lucky although did get very hard frosts. Fine here this morning though 5 degrees.

It is four degrees here, but we still have all of the snow. The icy edges are beginning to look wet and the snow on the roof is starting to melt, but it will probably take a couple of days to clear everything. We decided to have a day out to a designer outlet village at York. There was noticeably less snow as we got away from this area. OH managed to buy a new coat, so he was happy. I wanted a couple of thick fleece tops , but couldn’t find anything I liked. I did buy a pale blue knee length cardigan from the Marks outlet , not for this time of the year though. I also bought a knee length button up fleece which is more like a dress, so that will be cosy with some thick tights It was very cold in the house when we got back as the heating switches itself off when it senses that both our mobiles are out and no one is walking about in front of the sensor. It saves money which is good, but I forgot to switch it back on before we got home. It was just coming on as we arrived because it could sense the mobiles. It should soon warm up though

I hope that you are all warmer than we are. It was supposed to creep above zero today, but I don’t think it has. It is due to be minus three overnight, so not as cold as it has been. It is now foggy, so that isn’t good. Tomorrow it is forecast to reach the dizzying temperature of five degrees. I hope that it does so that the ice can start to thaw. We haven’t been out again, so OH was looking for jobs to do. He decided to move a couple of rails up in his wardrobe, so he can store some shoes in the bottom. The previous people were quite short, so the rails were low. As we are much taller, we can have them higher. After he did his, I asked him to do mine. As it meant taking all the clothes out, I have sorted out a bag for the charity shop before I hung them up again. The clothes in the wardrobes where we have a second tier hang better now the rails are higher

It is due to be minus five here overnight. The temperature is dropping really quickly now it is getting dark. All the curtains are closed, so the house should be nice and warm. I managed to find some fairly recent baptisms this afternoon for OH’s mother and her siblings. They must have been added to Ancestry fairly recently, so that was time well spent this afternoon.
