1851 Census Look Up please

re George Thomas COTTRELL b1834, I can find him in the 1841 and 1871 censuses in Portsea, Portsmouth, but not in the 1851 or 1861 censuses.

Ideas anyone?

You didn't give any birth place or anything for him ........ so it is hard.

Cottrell is not an uncommon name, from various areas of England, as I know to my own cost. I have found my own Cottrells, all from Lancashire or Cheshire, mis-spelled in all kinds of weird and wonderful ways!

In 1861, the transcribed record shows as Margee posted it .............. but looking at the image shows that there are actually only 2 people on board the Princess Royal

I don't see George in 1851 ......... it could well be that he was at sea on the ngith the census was taken.
